Frequently Asked Questions — Zhim Leather Creations
Everything you need to know about our leather goods, craftsmanship, care, and ordering.
Materials & Craftsmanship
What type of leather does Zhim Leather Creations use?
Zhim Leather Creations uses full-grain and top-grain leather — the two highest grades available. Full-grain leather retains the hide's natural surface for maximum durability and develops a beautiful patina with age. Every hide is selected by hand for grain quality, thickness, and consistency before being cut and stitched in our workshop.
Are Zhim leather goods handmade?
Yes. Every Zhim Leather piece is handcrafted from start to finish — hand-cut, hand-stitched, and hand-finished. We use saddle-stitching, a technique where two needles and waxed thread create a stitch that is stronger and more durable than machine stitching. If one stitch breaks, the seam holds; it cannot unravel.
How long does a handcrafted leather bag last?
A well-made, full-grain leather bag from Zhim Leather Creations is built to last 20–30 years or more with basic care. The combination of premium hide, saddle-stitching, and brass hardware means the bag improves with age rather than deteriorating. Many customers treat our bags as heirloom pieces.
Ordering & Customisation
Can I customise a Zhim leather bag?
Yes. We offer personalisation options including monogramming, choice of thread colour, hardware finish (brass or gunmetal), and strap length adjustments. Contact us before ordering to discuss bespoke requirements — we can accommodate most requests for an additional lead time.
How long does it take to make a handcrafted leather bag?
Each Zhim Leather piece is made to order. Standard production time is 5–10 business days depending on the piece. Custom or personalised orders may require an additional 3–5 days. We will confirm your exact timeline at the time of order.
Care & Maintenance
How do I maintain a leather bag?
Clean your Zhim leather bag with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove surface dust. Every 3–6 months, apply a small amount of leather conditioner (such as beeswax balm or lanolin cream) to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, rain, or extreme heat. Store in the dust bag provided when not in use.
Can leather bags get wet?
Leather is naturally water-resistant to light rain, but should not be submerged or left soaking. If your Zhim bag gets wet, blot excess water with a dry cloth immediately and allow it to air-dry away from direct heat. Once dry, apply a leather conditioner to restore suppleness.
